We are excited to welcome you to the Northern Humboldt Union High School District! Below is some important information regarding obtaining an Interdistrict or Intradistrict Transfer for next school year.
Interdistricts:
Humboldt County school district superintendents have come to a collective agreement on interdistrict attendance, which includes the process for Interdistrict Transfer Agreements. An Interdistrict Agreement (for students who are currently residing outside of the school district that they wish to attend) must be filed with your district of residence between December 1 and February 1. These must be renewed yearly. Those submitted after the February 1 deadline may be subject to a waitlist or denial. For more information about the agreement you can view our FAQ sheet on our website (www.nohum.org) under Parent & Community – Parent Resources.
Intradistricts:
Intradistrict Agreements are for students residing in the Northern Humboldt High School District but requesting attendance at one of our schools outside of their attendance boundaries. Intradistrict Agreements are good for the remainder of a student's high school term and do not need to be renewed yearly.
Please note that all transfers are approved based on program and school capacity and may be subject to denial or a waitlist. Priority will be given to siblings of students already enrolled in school of choice; currently attending a feeder school within the school of choice boundaries; parent/guardian works at school of choice; has already become established at school of choice but moves outside of attendance boundaries; or has been a victim of bullying, as determined through an investigation. Please note, charter schools do not require a transfer to enroll. You do not need to submit a transfer request in order to attend Six Rivers Charter High School. For more information on our intradistrict transfer process, you can view Administrative Regulation 5116.1 on our website as well.
For all agreements, the district will determine capacity and give priority to students that apply by the deadline. For applicants who relocate after the February 1 deadline, you will be considered based on the same criteria as those who met the application deadline.
It's important to point out that for the 2023-24 school year, there were multiple requests for Arcata High School that were denied or waitlisted due to school and program capacity. Please note, we anticipate this could be an issue as well for the 2024-25 school year and encourage you to attend 8th Grade Parent Nights for not only the school you are applying to attend, but also the school that is within your attendance boundaries. If you are unsure which district you reside in, you can search your address using the HCOE District Locator tool that can be located on their website.
